First man in space and BAMF extraordinaire.  When his best friend was to be sent up on a suicide mission in a woefully unfit craft, Gagarin tried to go in his place, even showing up at the launch pad in his space suit.  Afterwards, he (allegedly) threw a drink in Khrushchev’s face.
